Why choose Mimaki TS300P 1800 Sublimation printer?


Mimaki TS300P 1800 Sublimation printer, It’s a wide-format roll-fed inkjet printer, printing dye-sublimation inks onto transfer paper up to 1,950mm wide. It is supplied fully specified for this type of work as standard, rather than needing add-on modifications. It can be used for any dye-sublimation applications, including polyester and mixed-fabric textiles, tabletops, tiles and metal panels (as long as they are powder coated with polyester).
How does it work?
This is an adaptation of Mimaki’s JV300 family with some significant modifications for textile transfer printing. The biggest is the adoption of Panasonic printheads with a longer throw distance than usual, allowing an air gap of 7mm below the heads (other Mimakis have about 3mm). This helps prevent head strikes due to the paper media cockling, especially in hot and humid conditions, says Horstern.
Bulk ink tanks are fitted instead of cartridges. An additional post-print heater is fitted so the ink is dry before the paper is rewound. A high accuracy re-winding system with a dancer bar is fitted – important for when the paper is unrolled and brought into contact with the final substrate in a calendaring roller or heat press.
A ‘Lite’ version of Mimaki’s TXLink3 RIP software is supplied. This is dedicated textile software with features such as color replacement so the same artwork can be used to produce different colourways. 
How productive is it? 
Officially the maximum speed is 115m2/hr. In practice Horstern says that high quality printing is achievable at 60m2/hr. 
You can choose either four colors (blue plus MKY) or six (with additional light blue and light magenta).

As it’s an all-in-one package there are no other options needed, but purchasers can choose to upgrade to the Standard or Pro versions of the TSLink software.

How to convert normal inkjet printer to sublimation printer?

Nowadays, dye sublimation printing becomes more and more popular, considering on sublimation printing machine and printing consumables' high price, more and more users want to develop sublimation printing but save cost. some customers want to convert their used normal inkjet printer to sublimation printer. By enabling the conversion of an ordinary Epson wide format printer into a dedicated sublimation printer, Fei Yue Inc. allows you to affordably enter into sublimation printing. 
If your Epson printer is brand-new, out-of-box, and has never been used with ink inside, you can proceed straight to using our inks. Do not install the Epson cartridges provided with the printer. Instead, either install a set of refillable cartridges with Performance-Ultra bottled ink or a set of Performance-Ultra compatible cartridges.
If your Epson printer is currently using any other ink (Epson-brand ink, aftermarket ink, another brand of sublimation ink), it is required that you purge all old ink from the printer's lines prior to installing Performance-Ultra Sublimation Ink.
Before beginning the conversion process, print a nozzle check to confirm that the print head is working properly. Do not attempt to perform a conversion on a printer that is not printing correctly.
Ensure that you have a spare maintenance tank or a maintenance tank resetter available before proceeding.
Remove all the old ink cartridges and install a set of cleaning cartridges (or a set of refillable cartridges filled with bottled purge fluid).
Perform the initial fill procedure to clear the old ink from the lines and replace it with purge fluid. Repeat the initial fill procedure once more to eliminate all residues.
Remove the cleaning cartridges and install the Performance-Ultra sublimation ink.
Perform the initial fill procedure to fill the lines with sublimation ink for printing!

Note: Some printers have two black slots (photo black + matte black). Only the matte black slot needs to be used. Leave the cleaning cartridge inside the photo black slot, as this slot will not be used in printing.

Some problems we encounter in sublimation printing

Problems encountered in sublimation are usually rooted in the process described in Figure 1. These include abnormally shaped parts, color matching, paper sticking and dishwasher/ultraviolet (UV) resistance.
Abnormally Shaped Parts. The uneven surfaces of ceramic parts can cause problems with sublimation. An uneven surface prevents even application of pressure, which is necessary to direct the gas to the part. Absence of pressure and direction causes blurring and light/blank spots. Creative methods of applying pressure—such as wrapping an elastic band around the part—or increasing the heat can compensate for these irregularities. Regular part measurements, however, can identify problem parts before they are decorated.
Color Matching. Color is a result of dye penetration into the coating. The amount of penetration can vary with the coating characteristics. A coating with a lower glass transition temperature would be softer at a 220~230℃ sublimation temperature, allowing greater dye penetration and showing darker colors, but some sharpness would also be compromised. Heat and pressure also affect dye penetration, and can be adjusted for the coating. A quality program with color testing is critical to isolating the cause of a color matching problem.

Sublimation paper Sticking. Referring back to Figure 1, the coating becomes soft when heated. If the coating becomes too soft, either because of excessive heat or a lower glass transition temperature of the coating, the pressure may force the ink, and the paper, into the coating. Upon cooling, the transfer paper will be frozen into the coating and hard to remove. Removal of the transfer paper while the part is still hot is one way to prevent the sticking, as is reducing the pressure. However, if this problem is experienced as part of a standard testing procedure, where heat, pressure and paper are constant, it could be an indication of coating or equipment problems.
UV Resistance. Resistance to sunlight radiation is a function of the coating chemistry. Coating suppliers have developed chemistries that resist UV degradation in other industries, such as outdoor paints and automotive applications. But for sublimation, each coating must be custom-formulated to meet the sublimation decorator’s needs. In some cases, there may be a trade-off—imparting high UV resistance may compromise the coating strength, for example, or may affect another coating property. Developing a UV resistant sublimation coating requires a joint effort from both the sublimation decorator and the supplier.

Introduction of specific dye sublimation printing process

Dye sublimation is quite unlike regular fine art giclee printing. With most kinds of printing, the variables one has to manage are limited to ensuring a color-calibrated workflow with calibrated monitors, printers, and proper paper profiles. There is a finesse involved, for sure: which is why prints from a professional studio will always be of higher quality and fidelity than prints made on a home printer. However, with dye sublimation, multiple other steps are involved that, despite correctly calibrated equipment, can introduce all manner of challenges.

The steps of dye sublimation are as follows:
1. An image is printed through a specialized RIP (raster image processing software) onto a coated dye sublimation transfer paper using dye sublimation inks.
2. The paper print is left to dry completely, and often set under the platen of a heat press – but not pressed – to ensure it is completely moisture free.
3. The print is taped or adhered to a substrate, like metal, wood, glass, tile or fabric. The tape must be heat-resistant to at least 450ºF.
4. A heat press is heated to 400º (depending on the substrate), and the printed paper and substrate are placed into the press.
5. And this is where the magic happens! In the heat press, the dye ink molecules are under extreme heat and pressure, which makes them “sublime”. This is where the term “sublimate” comes from.
6. The ink molecules by pass the liquid state of matter and move directly from a solid on the paper to a gas.
7. The coating on the substrate – a special kind of polyester – also goes through a shift in its state of matter, but not to a gas: it “glassifies”, meaning it transitions almost to a liquid but still holds its structure as a solid.
8. The sublimation ink gas molecules have nowhere to go but into the glassified polyester coating on the substrate, due to the extreme pressure in the heat press.
9. Once the allotted time is up, the substrate is removed, and the print is peeled away. The dye ink has been transferred integrally into – literally in between the molecules – the polyester coating!
10. The printed image is now permanently embedded into the coating on the substrate.
